The Faville story: Madison Audubon Society's Faville Grove Sanctuary is named for Stoughton W. Faville, a progressive-thinking dairy farmer and self-taught botanist who lived and farmed just north of Lake Mills, Wisconsin and helped Aldo Leopold develop a cooperative game management program. Leopold established the Faville Grove Wildlife Experimental Area, in the area surrounding the Faville homestead, where he and students from the University of Wisconsin studied both animal and plant communities as well as people's connection to the land. Today many Madison Audubon Society volunteers dedicate their efforts to keep Leopold's efforts alive and growing. |
